You reach the village of Choroní (pron.: choronee) from the city of Maracay, traveling through the National Park "Henri Pittier".

The 45 km (aprox. 30 miles) long road was constructed around 1920 but paved only 20 years ago.
The route takes you first rather high into the mountains and then continues downwards through a tropical rainforest until you finally reach your destiny.

The National Park "Henri Pittier" is famous for it's more then 500 different species of birds living there. Also beautiful butterflies, monkeys and other animals can be observed. Many endemic plants can be found in the park.

Choroní has been founded 300 years ago and is one of the most picturesque villages of Venezuela.

As testimony of history you still see many of the colonial buildings.

In the vicinity of Choroní are other very interesting places like Puerto Colombia, Bahía Playa Grande, Playa de Cepe (by boat) and Chuao, world-famous for its high-quality cocoa.
